When Social Services become involved with your Family

Social Services may be threatening to take your children from your care. It is important you have access to the advice and support which we can provide to help you protect your family.

It may be that Social Services have decided to issue care proceedings, initiate the pre-proceedings process or have put in place a child protection plan or child in need plan. They may be wanting your children to be placed with family members, friends or to be put into foster care.  It is important you seek advice as early as possible so that you have all the information you need.

We appreciate how traumatic this can be. We are here to support you.

How we can help

We can represent and support you through care proceedings and Court hearings. We can  attend pre-proceedings meetings with you and guide you through this process. We will explain each step to you so you can make informed decisions. You will need separate legal advice to the Local Authority, Guardian and any other parent/s of your children during this time.

We can also advise and guide you through the process of child protection and child in need plans.

Funding advice for the involvement of Social Services

We offer different funding options to clients, depending on their eligibility. They are Legal Aid funding or privately funded.

What is Legal Aid and eligibility

We offer Legal Aid which is where HM Government fund part or all of your legal advice or provide you with a discount dependent on eligibility requirements. All matters involving Care Proceedings and Pre Proceedings are eligible for Legal Aid.  For other matters you may also be eligible for Legal Aid which is means tested. We can help advise you on the possible sources of finance for your matter.

Self funding your  advice

If you are not eligible for Legal Aid, we charge £200 per hour for advising on matters involving social services. We always give a fee estimate. Additional costs may be incurred and can be found by on our funding page.

Free initial consultation for new clients

We offer prospective clients with a free initial consultation. This is done via a phone call. We also offer legal surgeries in Yeovil where you can also drop in for a free initial consultation. At these free consultations,  we will discuss your legal position, suggest possible solutions and explore funding solutions. This includes assessing if you are eligible for Legal Aid funding or we will provide you with a fee estimate. Please note these consultations are up to 20 minutes long and do not include us advising you.
